Energy Efficiency Results

Energy efficiency is a key consideration in designing and maintaining modern air-handling systems. HVAC systems can account for more than 50% of a building's total energy consumption. The efficiency of heat exchange at the cooling and heating coils is one of the key drivers of a system's energy characteristics.

Graph 1 demonstrates the efficiencies that can be derived through cleaning and maintaining the two key heat exchange components- the condenser coil and cooling/heating coil respectively.

The heat transfer efficiency of coils is greatly affected by any deposits on the coil surface. Table 1 shows the insulating property of common deposits found on HVAC heat exchangers. Biofilm has by far the greatest impact on system efficiency.
