Cooling Tower Treatment Program

Cooling Tower Treatment - Safety, Efficiency, and Equipment Longevity
Warm water in the cooling system is a natural habitat and breeding ground for microorganisms. A major operating problem in open circulating systems is control of microbiological deposits that can severely interfere with proper heat transfer and cause fouling of equipment and corrosion of system metals. Microbiological fouling of cooling towers and equipment surfaces is due to the uncontrollable growth of algae, fungi, and bacteria. Contaminants originating from the make-up water used in the cooling system and from the air that mixes with the circulating water, giving rise to microbiological growth. The most common are algae, bacterial and fungal slimes, iron bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria and filamentous fungi. Biocide treatment is required to eliminate this biological growth. Several acceptable biocide are available, however, Northeast Coil, Inc. uses only the Aerisguard™ product line and the patented Bioactive Enzyme Cleaner.

The U.S. Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program - Operations and Maintenance recommends cooling towers be thoroughly cleaned on a periodic basis to minimize bacterial growth. The Northeast Coil, Inc. cleaning will remove all dust, scale, algae, and other contaminants from the cooling tower and its system components. This process will include:

  • Aerisguard™ Bioactive Enzyme Cleaning of all Internal / External Compartment Walls
  • Aerisguard™ Bioactive Enzyme Cleaning of Tower Basin
  • Aerisguard™ Bioactive Enzyme Cleaning of Heat Transfer Media or Fill
  • Aerisguard™ Bioactive Enzyme Cleaning of Louvers and Cooling Tower Fan System
  • Wet-Vacuum and Removal of all Bulk Deposits and Solids From Tower Basin
  • Wet-Vacuum and Removal of All Bulk Deposits and Solids From Sump-Pumps

At the completion of our service all customers receive a CD containing digital photographs detailing the cooling tower system before and after the cleaning process. We also provide Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all cleaning solutions used in the process.

Unclean cooling towers promote growth of potentially infectious bacteria, including Legionella Pneumophilia, the bacteria responsible for the deadly Legionnaire's Disease. Legionella may be found in water droplets from cooling towers, which can then become airborne and are a serious health hazard if inhaled by humans. If inhaled, the bacteria quickly grows and since early symptoms can be mistaken for the flu or even pneumonia, Legionnaire's Disease can potentially go undiagnosed until it is too late.

Don't let your Cooling Tower system become a breeding ground for deadly bacterial growth. Keep your system running safe and efficient. Contact Northeast Coil today.
